Authors

With more than a hundred years of experience, we know how to ensure your scientific contribution the visibility and exposure it deserves worldwide.

Submission

All Karger journals are peer reviewed by experienced editors. To find the right journal for your paper, go to the Journal Index or the Subject Guide.

Every journal homepage comprises a Guidelines for Authors section with detailed and specific editorial and textual requirements which you need to consider when writing a paper.

We suggest you also consult the general Technical Instructions file on the preparation and digitalization of your manuscipt and illustrations.

A growing number of our journals offers online submission: the respective links and instructions can also be found on the individual journal homepage.

External Language Editing Service

American Journal Experts (AJE) provides professional language editing services to authors around the globe who wish to publish in scientific, technical, medical and humanities journals. Authors may wish to use this service to improve a paper's English and, therefore, its overall quality. This assistance is suggested either before an article is submitted for peer review or before it is accepted for publication.

AJE employs expert editors with post-graduate training in a wide variety of fields who will check your manuscripts not only for terminology and language specific to your field but also for proper English usage, grammar, punctuation, spelling, verb tense, and phrasing. In addition, AJE's professional editors will make sure the text sounds natural and the sentences are well constructed.
Visit AJE's website for more information or to submit a document for their research paper editing service.

Author's ChoiceTM

We also offer you the possibility to make your article freely available online. The Author's ChoiceTM option entails a publication fee and includes the right of the author to re-use the article in an educational or research setting. For more details, please see Author's ChoiceTM.

Does your funding agency/institute require you to deposit your article in an institutional archive (e.g. PubMedCentral)? You will be pleased to hear that Karger journals are fully geared up for this requirement. All you have to do is opt for open access publication of your article through Karger's Author's ChoiceTM.
Karger will also take care of the immediate deposit in the PubMedCentral archive and what's more, not of the manuscript, but of the final, published article. The article will also be available with open access right away, and not just after 12 months.
The cost of Author's ChoiceTM is a permissible cost in your grant, so please take care to budget for it.

Self-Archiving

Authors may archive their pre-prints (i.e. pre-refereeing) or post-prints (i.e. final draft post-refereeing) on their personal or institution's servers, provided these are non-commercial, a link is made to the publisher's version, and the publisher's copyright and source are acknowledged. The publisher's version may not be used.

Online-first Journals

More and more Karger journals are published 'online first': All articles are published electronically ahead of print, either with the definite citation line or the assigned DOI number. Thus, articles will be fully citable and available online shortly after their authors' approval to print

Reference Linking

All references in Karger journal articles (html fulltext) are linked to external resources such as
Pubmed/Medline (NLM)
CrossRef /DOI)
Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS)
Cambridge Scientific Abstracts (CSA)
ISI Web of Science.
As of 2005, the PDF journal article now contains embedded the same citation links. To experience the new PDF Plus technology, see this sample article

CrossRef/DOI

As a member of the CrossRef, Karger utilizes Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) in bibliographic data to facilitate unique and persistent identification of research material. Journal article citations contain reference links to source material located on the World Wide Web, when available. In addition to persistent identification, CrossRef also facilitates the discovery of research material on the Web through the CrossRef Search Pilot initiative powered by a Google search engine. This collaborative effort launches a typical Google search but filters the result to include the scholarly research content from participating scholarly publishers. Thus, reducing the false hits produced by general web searches.

Reference Management

Use of EndNote is recommended for easy management and formatting of citations and reference lists.

Queries

Do you have a query regarding a paper you already submitted to one of our journals? Let Peter Roth know what the problem is and he will sort it out for you. Don't forget to mention the title of your paper, the first-named author and to which journal you submitted it.
For enquiries about articles submitted online, please use the e-mail address indicated on the journal's homepage and/or submission website.

Errors in Medline

We take great care to send Medline/PubMed appropriately encoded data and double-check the spelling of names, particularly with regard to accents and signs not covered by HTML. Despite these efforts, conversion errors can occur.
If the mistake is only on Medline, please go to the Reporting Errors Section of PubMed FAQs at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed/faqs.html for instructions. You can also e-mail them at pubmed@ncbi.nlm.nih.gov. Please note: Medline may prefer not to use the special signs we supply them with for technical or editorial reasons. Furthermore, Medline reduces diacritics to their root characters: Authors wishing to preserve the phonetic meaning of diacritics in their names must spell them accordingly when submitting manuscripts (e.g. Müller should be Mueller).
If the mistake also shows up on the Karger site and/or in the printed journal, contact info@karger.ch or use the Error Report form. Please state journal name, volume and issue number as well as article title and the error.

Publishing Projects

We have the capacity and publishing expertise to disseminate scientific information worldwide, either as part of one of our book series, as an independent book or as a special journal issue. Give Thomas Karger an outline of your project and he will be back in touch with an offer tailored to your specific needs.

Author's Discount

A published paper in a Karger book or journal entitles you to a special Author's Discount of currently 25% on all our book publications. Just mention your status as an author when you order directly from us.
